It has been 5 years since our highly successful show at the Folk Arts Center in 2022. Now,  our 2027 Guild Show is now on the horizon. The show will be open to public viewing from January 30 to May 12, 2027.

Up to 50 items will be chosen for the show by a jury of your peers from the Guild using submitted photos of your work. Deadline for submitting work to the jury is December 1, 2026 . The deadline for completion of forms and delivery of your work to the Folk Arts Center is December 28, 2026. Only Guild members may submit work for consideration.

The work should be original in design and less than 4 years old. Preference will be given to works available for sale. Work you submit for the Mountain State Fair and SAFF are eligible for entry into the show.

The Folk Arts Center is responsible for hanging the show and will take 50% of any sales and 10% of any commissions received as a result of the show.

Links to a document with all details as well as the contract needed for the FAC if your work is juried into the show are embedded.

If you are interested in serving on the show jury, please contact Andrea Croskery.

We feel very privileged to be granted another show and are grateful to the Folk Arts Center for inviting us back. Please support the show by submitting your work for consideration.

As was announced at the February meeting, long time member, Betsy Goodnight, passed away and asked that her studio items be given to the Guild. Betsy joined the guild around 2001 and served as president, arranged for retreats and served the guild in many other ways. She taught weaving in her home studio and passed on her knowledge to many other weavers.

On Saturday, Feb. 22 a small but sturdy group went to Betsy’s home in the Morganton area with a rented 15' UHaul to bring back items.

Three looms, and ~ 1800 lbs. of yarn, material, equipment and books were taken to Rusti Nichols barn. Much of that has been dispersed to students of the Haywood Community College Professional Fiber Arts Program, Local Cloth (for their giveaway to artists impacted by Hurricane Helene) and the Guild's booth at the Anything Fiber Sale. Quite a bit of chenille remains free to members who might like to peruse what's left. Contact Rusti.

Betsy was a prolific weaver and in addition to all of the other items the guild received, two large clothes hampers of woven cloth were also received. We will honor and remember Betsy in our Winter Project. The challenge is to take one or several of the pieces here and make something out of the cloth. We have been posting ideas on our Facebook group page and this year’s retreat was focused on using handwoven cloth. We hope all of this material will find a new life in your creation!

If you missed the November meeting, please use something you already have in your stash/stock of samples, gamps, and other items and transform them into something useful or just a pretty piece of art.

Ideas and links to suggestions are posted on this Threadline.

    Thanks you Betsy!

All are invited to a presentation by Diane Totten, who shapes garments with the woven shibori technique. You do not need to be a member, or even a weaver to attend; her work is stunning and if you appreciate fashion, this will excite you.
