Draw Loom Weaving
Ann Pecaro
Modern drawlooms allow the weaver to manipulate individual units like pixels across their weaving, opening the door to weaving figures, portraits, complex geometries--with no computers required! We'll go on a whirlwind history of drawloom evolution from the Tang Dynasty in China to the Jacquards in France to the living rooms of Sweden. We'll take an in depth look at Drawloom mechanics and theory--what makes these fascinating looms do what they do? We'll end with samples of various structures on the drawloom, and a wealth of resources for pursuing your own double-harness weaving techniques with--and without--investing a drawloom.
Anne Pecaro bought her first loom right before the pandemic, and within a year she had left her filmmaking studio to pursue weaving in earnest. She has studied multi-harness & drawloom weaving extensively at Vavstuga, and with Justin Squizzero of the Newbury School of Weaving. Anne now teaches weaving at The Holly Springs Center School of Mountain Arts.
